November News 2008

A dull, grey and wet start to November brought little cheer to staff or volunteers alike.

The week of 3-7 November brought the winter work schedule into action and the first job to be tackled was some very unlevel track. Public running has now stopped through the week. The troublesome turntable, known for breaking loco springs, was given major surgery to reduce the gap between it and the run round loop and also the difference in height between these two rails. Well done to the staff involved as you now hardly notice anything as you drive off the turntable.

Keen eyed visitors may also note the three lovely new track panels as you drive off the turntable. These have been relaid and realigned and replace some not so smooth track, again much better to drive on. The truntable is in semi manaual operation, the locking bar has some dodgey grub screws and the turntable has to be locked by hand before driving on and off. The tuntable doctor has written a prescription however the local pharmacist did not have the correct dose of medication in. A delivery is being rushed in via the first available packhorse!!

Something for the future? Plans are well underway for future volunteer involvement in the railway. Watch this space for special announcements very soon!! Working parties will be held every second Saturday in the month.
